Please HELP save our country, Philippines

2010 Christmas is here and soon it will be gone. To me, it is the best time for giving, so let’s enjoy the spirit of giving. Give “a good deed for your country”. Take this opportunity now and go out of your way to make a difference and do a real good deed for our one and only Philippines.

I promise you will feel great after you have done something no matter how small. Even just by giving your idea or comment how we can improve is good enough. Please share your thoughts how we can improve.

I believe that our success is rooted from among us the common people. Not from the government. We should do our part and not just rely everything to our government. As suggested by one of our modern pinoy hero, Jon, in his comment last November 7, 2010, we better "support our leaders instead of throwing criticisms on them". I fully agree with him after all our leaders are not perfect so let’s give them a chance to do their job and we will just call their attention as soon as we have given them ample time yet they are not performing.

Merry Christmas, my fellow countrymen here and abroad!

What is Christmas for you?

What will Christmas be for you, the modern pinoy heroes? What do you really enjoy about Christmas? To the Christians, it is the symbolic celebration for the birth of Christ some 2010 years ago.

When I was a kid, Christmas is receiving gifts. I remember then when I was eagerly looking forward what Santa has placed in my socks which I hang during Christmas Eve. What gifts I have under the Christmas tree.

When I was older, it was the family gathering dinner and exchange of gifts on Christmas Eve. A toast of champagne to all members of the family. How wonderful it was when every member of your love ones is around to partake the “media noche”.

Now, it is sharing of our blessings to those unfortunate brothers and sisters. A pack dinner of Jollibee value meal distributed to our orphans and street children is a joy for me. Do share and you will feel great modern pinoy heroes!

Manny Pacquiao one of our modern Pinoy heroes

You may agree or disagree with me but the writer considers Manny Pacquiao as one of our modern Pinoy heroes. He has done a lot for the good of our country. He has helped countless of our poor people. You have shown in your fight against Margarito last November 14, 2010 your compassion for a suffering opponent when you gestured to the referee in the 11th round to stop the fight. Mabuhay ka Manny!

6 Easy Ways You Can Help Our Country

I made an informal survey by asking friends and relatives about their opinions on how they think are the best and simplest way our common people can help our country. Below are their top answers:

1. Obey the laws.
It’s for everybody and not only the rich but the poor as well. For those who are fortunate to have cars, they can follow the traffic rules, speed limit, parking, etc. For those who do not have cars, they can use the pedestrian lanes or the pedestrian overpass when crossing. It will not only show discipline among us but also safe for them. Accidents will then be prevented. If you happen to be riding a bus and sitting behind the driver, you can politely remind the driver to drive courteously if he is doing otherwise as he is not in the race track.

2. Throw garbage properly.
If we do not litter, we end up with clean streets.

3. Buy Filipino made products whenever possible.
It will help our economy instead of helping other countries economy. There are now world-class if not the best in the world, Philippine made products such as travelling suit case, electronics. LCD TV, etc.

4. Always ask for official receipt.
This will generate funds for our government which could be used for our progress.

5. Write or talk positive things about our country.
Let us not criticize ourselves. We have to protect our image. We can help every time we talk positive about our country. Invite other people to visit the Philippines and enjoy our beautiful beaches and the very warm Filipino hospitality. See for themselves how peaceful it is here and not the way as portrayed by some of our media.

6. Pray for our country.
Prayer helps and if we do it all together every 7 in the morning, a 10 seconds daily prayer, we will be heard.

IF YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY, PROTECT IT'S IMAGE!

In my personal opinion, The Philippine Star has successfully made a big accomplishment to downgrade our country by placing a very negative headline in their issue today, November 3, 2010 which reads… “Australia, UK: High terror threat in MM”.

The advisory actually was made by their respective embassies for their citizens and not for the Filipino citizens. I really do not understand what Star wanted to attain when the advisory was referring to some parts of Mindanao and not in Metro Manila. Why scare our people and the rest of the world how dangerous it is here. This is exactly the kind of media that will bring us down. I call on you the management of The Philippine Star to please consider the impact it will give to our country before placing such negative things about our country. Can you imagine how many tourist it will scare because of this headline?

Inside the paper, on page 8, our military claimed it is the foreign terrorist that pose this threat and not our local rebels. In this case, then we are just in the same situation as their countries, Australia and UK wherein foreign terrorist are always a threat.

In view of this, I respectfully urge you to please correct immediately in your next issue to give more the positive side so as reverse the downtrend.

PHILIPPINE CLEAN STREETS

Can you imagine the Philippines of being free from all sorts of litter? Do you know that if each and everyone of us will not litter, we can enjoy living in a country with clean streets. If Singapore can do it, we too can do it. How do we do it? Simple, just do not litter! We do not need our government to monitor for us, we monitor ourselves. Start TODAY.

Filipinos in general are the most honest in the world

According to WIKIPEDIA as of October 26, 2010, our neighbor Singapore is ranked #3 as the least corrupt country in the world while we are # 139th. Big difference isn’t it?...
Why, because primarily of the people not the leaders but the people. My fellow countrymen, will you just sit there and do nothing but watch the continuous deterioration of our country? If that’s how you look at it then, you better leave and go somewhere else and be a citizen of another country. But there is no escape as the people there will always look at you as a Pinoy and will judge you as such.

We, millions of Pinoys out there, believe that we have a very good chance to change the bad image and the solution is with the people. Not from our government but just from ourselves. That is why we have to take action starting TODAY. Do something good for our country and definitely you will feel great immediately because you have done something. The easiest and the simplest way are to just keep our mouths closed about negative things in our country and only open them to shout to the world something positive.

I have travelled all around the world but to me, there is no place like home. By all means we have to protect our image and nurture it. There is only one Philippines. This is our very own even if some of us are now living abroad. Instill good values to our children, friends, neighbors, etc. NOW! When done, please share us your ideas in this medium and others so that our people can see and accordingly take action as well.

SAVE THE PHILIPPINES

Do you want to know where the Philippines is headed and how we stand against our neighbors in the next 10 years?  Make a guess…...

My calculated guess is that we will be near the bottom if not at the bottom. It is demoralizing to note but true unless we the people take action NOW to reverse the down trend.  YES, there is a solution!  But first we have to identify the problem.

Why do you think we are going down?  I know why, because some of our people are very good in CRITIZICING almost everything we do. They shout to the whole world to hear all the bad things we do.

So, who are to blame? …. ALL are to blame.

Leaders
Terrorists
the Church
Common people – Yes you are included because in keeping silent you are not doing anything to correct the bad image. So do something NOW to improve our image. The easiest way is to keep our mouths shut about negative things and only open them to scream for the world to hear if we have something positive.

The Media:
In my opinion, they are the greatest contributor to our downfall. Why, because in their quest to report the TRUTH no matter how the issue will damage our country, they still do it. They sensationalize the report without factoring in the harm it will do to our country.

I also believe that our Media will be the biggest contributor to change our image to positive if they change direction and SENSATIONALIZE their positive reports. In this regard, I call on our media people to please consider this issue in reporting.
Whisper the negative and Yell whatever is positive.

Tomorrow we tackle others…

pinoy heroes today

It is sad to note that we are slowly deteriorating as a country. Long ago, we ranked number 2 in Asia and only next to  Japan. It is not too late to reverse the trend. We can do this if each and every one of us will do something positive to improve our country.

I call on all of you, modern Pinoy heroes to please contribute each day. Place you comments here so that our people can see how we can improve.

I encourage you my fellow countrymen here in The Philippines and abroad to place your comments or suggestions here, how we can improve instead of criticizing. United we win, and divided we fall. We do not have to rely on the government to do all for us. We too have to do our share.

It can be as simple as not littering, helping an elderly cross the street, briefing our children to stick to our honesty values, etc. It has to be done everyday.
