What is Christmas for you?

What will Christmas be for you, the modern pinoy heroes? What do you really enjoy about Christmas? To the Christians, it is the symbolic celebration for the birth of Christ some 2010 years ago.

When I was a kid, Christmas is receiving gifts. I remember then when I was eagerly looking forward what Santa has placed in my socks which I hang during Christmas Eve. What gifts I have under the Christmas tree.

When I was older, it was the family gathering dinner and exchange of gifts on Christmas Eve. A toast of champagne to all members of the family. How wonderful it was when every member of your love ones is around to partake the “media noche”.

Now, it is sharing of our blessings to those unfortunate brothers and sisters. A pack dinner of Jollibee value meal distributed to our orphans and street children is a joy for me. Do share and you will feel great modern pinoy heroes!

Manny Pacquiao one of our modern Pinoy heroes

You may agree or disagree with me but the writer considers Manny Pacquiao as one of our modern Pinoy heroes. He has done a lot for the good of our country. He has helped countless of our poor people. You have shown in your fight against Margarito last November 14, 2010 your compassion for a suffering opponent when you gestured to the referee in the 11th round to stop the fight. Mabuhay ka Manny!

6 Easy Ways You Can Help Our Country

I made an informal survey by asking friends and relatives about their opinions on how they think are the best and simplest way our common people can help our country. Below are their top answers:

1. Obey the laws.
It’s for everybody and not only the rich but the poor as well. For those who are fortunate to have cars, they can follow the traffic rules, speed limit, parking, etc. For those who do not have cars, they can use the pedestrian lanes or the pedestrian overpass when crossing. It will not only show discipline among us but also safe for them. Accidents will then be prevented. If you happen to be riding a bus and sitting behind the driver, you can politely remind the driver to drive courteously if he is doing otherwise as he is not in the race track.

2. Throw garbage properly.
If we do not litter, we end up with clean streets.

3. Buy Filipino made products whenever possible.
It will help our economy instead of helping other countries economy. There are now world-class if not the best in the world, Philippine made products such as travelling suit case, electronics. LCD TV, etc.

4. Always ask for official receipt.
This will generate funds for our government which could be used for our progress.

5. Write or talk positive things about our country.
Let us not criticize ourselves. We have to protect our image. We can help every time we talk positive about our country. Invite other people to visit the Philippines and enjoy our beautiful beaches and the very warm Filipino hospitality. See for themselves how peaceful it is here and not the way as portrayed by some of our media.

6. Pray for our country.
Prayer helps and if we do it all together every 7 in the morning, a 10 seconds daily prayer, we will be heard.

IF YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY, PROTECT IT'S IMAGE!

In my personal opinion, The Philippine Star has successfully made a big accomplishment to downgrade our country by placing a very negative headline in their issue today, November 3, 2010 which reads… “Australia, UK: High terror threat in MM”.

The advisory actually was made by their respective embassies for their citizens and not for the Filipino citizens. I really do not understand what Star wanted to attain when the advisory was referring to some parts of Mindanao and not in Metro Manila. Why scare our people and the rest of the world how dangerous it is here. This is exactly the kind of media that will bring us down. I call on you the management of The Philippine Star to please consider the impact it will give to our country before placing such negative things about our country. Can you imagine how many tourist it will scare because of this headline?

Inside the paper, on page 8, our military claimed it is the foreign terrorist that pose this threat and not our local rebels. In this case, then we are just in the same situation as their countries, Australia and UK wherein foreign terrorist are always a threat.

In view of this, I respectfully urge you to please correct immediately in your next issue to give more the positive side so as reverse the downtrend.
