What is Christmas for you?

What will Christmas be for you, the modern pinoy heroes? What do you really enjoy about Christmas? To the Christians, it is the symbolic celebration for the birth of Christ some 2010 years ago.

When I was a kid, Christmas is receiving gifts. I remember then when I was eagerly looking forward what Santa has placed in my socks which I hang during Christmas Eve. What gifts I have under the Christmas tree.

When I was older, it was the family gathering dinner and exchange of gifts on Christmas Eve. A toast of champagne to all members of the family. How wonderful it was when every member of your love ones is around to partake the “media noche”.

Now, it is sharing of our blessings to those unfortunate brothers and sisters. A pack dinner of Jollibee value meal distributed to our orphans and street children is a joy for me. Do share and you will feel great modern pinoy heroes!

  1. Christmas is something we all look forward to. As a kid, I also had fond memories of it- attending Christmas Eve mass, an hour nap ater the mass, checking my Christmas stockigs, Noche Buena with the family (composed of Bugtot or Pan Americano with Queso de Bola, Ham, yummy Pancit Molo, wine and Coke for us kids) and the most awaited part: the opening of gifts. It won't be complete without our Christmas Day lunch for the whole clan. I come from a big clan, so basically I get to open more than 10 gifts which my pamangkins are a bit jealous of (hehe). But as I grow older, I come to realize the true essence of Christmas. The usual Christmas that we have isn't practiced anymore for the reason that we now have our own separate lives. I "technincally" spent Christmas alone last year, (a generous family took me in actually), but I had the opportuity to take part of what we call "Singles Express", where we (Singles for Christ members) prepare packed food for our unfortunate brethren along the dark and chilly streets of Manila. We were like "thieves in the night" because we have to distribute the food discreetly, while they were sleeping. As we were doing it, I realized how lucky I am as compared to them. I realized life isn't about complaining. I may not eat the best food; others barely have food to eat. I may not have a good paying job, while others are in search for one. Let's hope that we continue to remember the true meaning of Christmas, be it in our own luxurious or simple ways.
